Folklore Wishing Customs

A goose that honks directly at you invites you to wish.
Make your wish quickly and run away.
(Beware; a goose can be nasty and nip at your legs.)

- Both wishes are from The Wishing Handbook: More than 500 Ways to Make Your Wishes Come True, © by Gloria T. Delamar (Running Press, 1999).

A wish made on a goose on May 1, which is Mother Goose Day, has a powerful chance of coming true.
Make your wish and then shout at the goose:
            "Mother Goose, Mother Goose,
Go and set my good wish loose."
If the goose runs away (as they usually do),
your wish may come true.
